Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

About the role

Nurse Practitioners at the Indian Health Service (IHS) are dedicated professionals who provide comprehensive healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Guided by the IHS mission to improve the health of these populations, Nurse Practitioners play a crucial role in delivering compassionate care in underserved areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary and specialty nursing care to patients in a variety of settings.
• Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, including preventive care.
• Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Document patient care activities and progress in medical records.
• Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain clinical competence.

Requirements

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) from an accredited program.
• Experience in providing healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native populations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or higher.
• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Passing scores on relevant national certification exams.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
