ADVANCED PRACTICE CLINICIAN II - ORTHOPEDICS

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

• Must have experience in providing diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic health services to patients and family members with the ability to function as an independent practitioner or with appropriate physician supervision.
• Secures a health and developmental history from the patient or parent and perform a detailed physical exam, records findings and makes critical evaluations.
• Performs or requests special screening and developmental tests and diagnostic tests and procedure and interprets the results.
• Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious musculoskeletal problems.
• Makes decisions concerning medical care needs of patients which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, Orthopedic and Medical consultation when appropriate.
• Provides direct and independent medical care in the presence of illness or disability.
• Provides surveillance or medical practices applied to stabilize patients with musculoskeletal injuries; adjusts treatments within established standing orders recognizing when to refer the patient to the physician or other health team members.
• Works collaboratively with physician in management of selected complex orthopedic problems.
• Evaluates the orthopedic and medical aspects of treatment plans and recognizes when reassessment by a physician or other health professionals is appropriate.
• Evaluates total health care needs of patients and develops or initiates plans to meet these needs.
• Maintains knowledge and proficiency in orthopedic and medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and home study.
• Teaches patients and family member’s ways to maintain or improve their musculoskeletal health.
• Maintains records and reports on patients, personal activities and other required information for use in program operation, quality assurance and other purposes.
• Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) review processes.
• Provides full range of orthopedic emergency services including fracture immobilization procedures to stabilize a patient sufficiently until a higher level of care is available.
• Serves as a mentor to Advanced Practice Clinician I as needed.
• Assumes responsibility for medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, interns or residents assigned.
• May be assigned orthopedic shifts in the orthopedic clinic or emergency department, as needed.
• May or may not assist in orthopedic surgical procedures.
• Orthopedic on call as assigned or as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Two (2) years direct work experience in a hospital/clinic setting as license Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Nurse Practitioner: Completion of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner School in any of the following areas: Accredited Family Nurse Practitioner, Accredited Adult Nurse Practitioner, Active unrestricted Advanced Nurse Practitioner license in any U.S. State or Territory in any of the following areas: Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, National Certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Active unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license from any U.S. State or Territory.
• Physician Assistant: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program, Board Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Active, unrestricted Physician Assistant License from any U.S. State or Territory.
