About the role
OHC is unique in that it provides health care to Native Americans but is not located on a reservation. This facility provides comprehensive health care to adult and pediatric Native Americans residing in or near the service area of Pennington County, South Dakota.
Responsibilities
- Integrate clinical pharmacy services that improve patient safety and improve patient health outcomes.
- Apply the current practice guidelines for chronic disease state management in choosing appropriate medications to achieve the goals set forth.
- Use physical assessment skills to measure blood pressure, heart rate, and weight.
- Evaluate laboratory tests as a means of diagnosing, monitoring disease state, and recommending drug therapy.
- Find correct answers to provider's questions in a timely manner.
- Instruct patients on recommended lifestyle modifications with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia.
- warfarin therapy, asthma, COPD, sexually transmitted diseases, smoking cessation, and depression.
Requirements
- Participates in Core Connections training and applies GPTLHB Core Connections concepts and practices in their work.
- Must be an enrolled pharmacy student with a college or university that has an active collaborative agreement with GPTCHB, Oyate Health Center;
- The student must sign the corresponding agreement at the beginning of their rotation.
- Must provide proof of liability insurance.
- Must possess an active pharmacy intern license (in any state).
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Agree to and abide by the rules and regulations of the intern program and GPTCHB policies and procedures;
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing technology, including: Office software suite knowledge (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Email usage (sending messages and attachments) General internet usage (searching, downloading, etc.).
Qualifications
- NATIVE AMERICAN/AMERICAN INDIAN PREFERENCE IN HIRING WILL BE APPLIED AS DEFINED IN TITLE 25 USC 44-46 &474.
- Employment is contingent upon the outcome of all required criminal background checks and pre-employment drug screen.
