Summary
Puget Sound VA Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant at the Auburn - WA Community Based Outreach Clinic.
About the Role
The position requires one year of specialized experience in an advanced or complex clinical setting, utilizing numerous advanced patient care systems, scheduling appointments across multiple clinics, and coordinating services among a diverse team of medical providers and clinics, including outside agencies. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, technical health care processes, policy and procedures related to coordination of care is required.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines to ensure medical care to patients is met.
- Independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations.
- Communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers.
- Communicate with Veteran patients regarding entitlement enrollment for health care benefits and other special programs.
- Obtain essential information and documentation from Veteran patients for enrollment activities.
- Determine health care eligibility for Veteran patients.
- Administer administrative processing of Veteran patients in enrollment, benefits, and registration.
- Support inpatient units and wards with administrative duties during day, evening, night, and weekend shifts.
- Process and record keeping of inpatient medical records.
- Perform manual and electronic data entry.
- Collate statistical information.
- Prepare Veteran patient statistics.
- Provide reception to incoming and outgoing customers and communication.
- Utilize Microsoft Office software to compile data and formulate reports.
Qualifications
- Basic Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, GED Certificate, or proficiency certificate issued by a State or Territorial Board or Department of Education.
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in an advanced or complex clinical setting, utilizing numerous advanced patient care systems, scheduling appointments across multiple clinics, and coordinating services among a diverse team of medical providers and clinics, including outside agencies.
- KSAs: Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines; ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines; ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers; advanced knowledge of the technical health care process; advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow and patient support care administrative functions to include appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc.; advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

- Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
- Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
