Advanced Marine Electrician (Norfolk, VA)
About the role
Join a dynamic team supporting the U.S. Navy located in Norfolk, VA. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver quality work performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships.
Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting and correct malfunctions.
- Conduct various tests or experiments, which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement.
- Select, set up, and operate standard test equipment and record test data.
- Repair electrical wiring, restoring the electrical connection to power a ship's engine and navigation systems, and securing work areas aboard vessels to avoid electrical shock.
- Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.
- Perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.
- Perform routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
- The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
- The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
- The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in electrical work in a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of Shipboard experience.
- Experience managing a crew of various trades (6-10 people).
- A combination of experience in the following areas:
- Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors.
- Read drawings (Tradesman level).
- QCI instruct of lower techs.
- Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CPPrelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts.
- Multipin competent.
- Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing.
- Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter.
Qualifications
- Attention to safety, which is critical.
- The ability and willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
- The ability to travel to Newport News, VA.
Skills
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- Fiber optic certification.
