Position Summary

Advanced Endoscopy Technician II - Digestive Health Institute - Downtown ORLANDO HEALTH

Responsibilities

  • Assists the endoscopist during complex endoscopic procedures such as ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection, Hemostasis and Third Space Endoscopy.
  • Sets up cautery settings for each interventional endoscopic procedure.
  • Mixes agents such as saline, dye, cyanoacrylate in correct proportions for endoscopic procedures.
  • Afford assistance with long-wire exchanges during ERCP.
  • Be familiar with accessories for each procedure and proficient with cautery settings and other accessories to assist with endoscopic emergencies.
  • Operate state-of-the-art AV equipment for recording videos for teaching.
  • Participate in lab to assist endoscopist with research and development of novel products and teach other allied professional intricacies of advanced endoscopic procedures.
  • Label and send specimens to proper department/location for analysis in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Communicate appropriate information regarding patient status, technical equipment, or unit concerns to necessary healthcare workers.
  • Prepare procedural suites for advanced GI and/or other interventional procedures.
  • Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • Provides direct care to patients in admitting and in recovery as directed by the resource nurse, including providing nourishment, assisting with toileting, discontinuing of IVs and checking vital signs.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with patients and the GI Unit team.
  • All duties falling under Medical Assistant per certificate (essential).
  • Maintains, cleans, and stores endoscopic equipment and supplies according to policy.
  • Facilitates efficient turnover time by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation needed for cases to follow in assigned room (essential).
  • Processes pathology specimens according to established protocols (essential).
  • Performs preventive maintenance and decontamination of endoscopes and other diagnostic equipment in compliance with established protocols (essential).
  • Prepares and assists with research procedures (essential).
  • Ensures all needed equipment and supplies are available for all procedures in a timely manner (essential).
  • Identifies changes in collected patient data and notifying nurse.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Able to anticipate the equipment needs of the operator during an interventional procedure to meet time and quality standards.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work with critically ill patients in emergency situations under high levels of stress.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification Required.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate Preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED Required.
  • Associate degree in Biological/medical field Preferred.
  • 3 Years of clinical experience Required.
  • Solid experience with scope reprocessing is Required.
  • Prior experience with assisting with performance of third space endoscopy such as peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), G(gastric)-POEM, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), ERCP, EUS is Preferred.
  • Technical and analytical abilities necessary to operate technical and electronic equipment and perform tests with a high degree of accuracy Required.
  • Able to anticipate the equipment needs of the operator during an interventional procedure to meet time and quality standards Required.
