The Advanced Practice Provider diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness, with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention, operating with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

• Acts as an advanced resource for specialty area or lead worker in clinic setting.
• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to diagnose medical and surgical problems, prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision, typically in a highly specialized area.
• Assists in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures unique to the specialized clinical setting.
• Uses advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care across the continuum.
• Assesses physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
• Documents reports and progress notes in the medical record.
• Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessments and collaborates to formulate treatment plans.
• Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, diagnostic studies, therapeutic measures, and admission/discharge care.
• Performs detailed history and physical examinations, documenting inpatient H&P, discharge summaries, and clinical notes (must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff within 24 hours).
• Initiates actions to facilitate therapeutic plans consistent with patients' continuing healthcare needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
• Provides a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
• Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to improve care quality.
• Documents accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintains provision of preventive health services.
• Conducts or participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
• Triages patients.
• Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, collaborating with other healthcare disciplines for continuity and quality of care.
• Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal/state/local standards.
• Complies with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Acts as a role model and resource for staff.
• Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
• Establishes relationships with community health professionals.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
• Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• Nurse Practitioner: MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing.
• Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.

Licensure/Certification

• Nurse Practitioner:
  • APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants must have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • Current BLS certification.
• Physician Assistant:
  • Current physician assistant licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Current BLS/healthcare certification.

Experience

• Three (3) years of Advanced Practice Provider experience in the specific assigned area of specialty.
