Advance Practice Provider, Oncology - Cancer Center Institute, Downtown Orlando

Orlando Health Cancer Institute is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer program consisting of six treatment sites and more than 10 practice locations serving the region’s adult oncology needs. Specializing in over 200 types of cancer, an expert team provides personalized care using state-of-the-art technologies such as advanced radiation, proton therapies, bone marrow transplant, and cellular therapy. About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness, with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and acute care treatment of oncology patients, including infusion oversight. This role operates with a high degree of independence in a specialized clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Act as an advanced resource for specialty area or lead worker in clinic setting.
• Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Operate with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area.
• Assist in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures unique to the clinical setting.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care using advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge.
• Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
• Document reports and progress notes in the medical record; recognize deviations from normal and collaborate on treatment plans.
• Implement appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, and diagnostic studies.
• Perform detailed history and physical examinations; document inpatient H & P, discharge summaries, and clinical notes (must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff within 24 hours).
• Initiate actions to facilitate therapeutic plans consistent with patients' continuing healthcare needs.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
• Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to improve care quality.
• Dictate and document accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain provision of preventive health services.
• Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
• Triage patients.
• Share clinical expertise with staff and collaborate with other healthcare disciplines for continuity and quality of care.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Act as a role model and resource person for staff.
• Participate in review and revision of policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Establish relationships with community health professionals.
• Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations.
• Participate in basic science and clinical research projects.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• Nurse Practitioner: MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing.
• Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.

Licensure/Certification

• Nurse Practitioner: APRN license in Florida; national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board (required for licensure applicants after July 1, 2006). Current BLS certification.
• Physician Assistant: Current licensure in Florida. Current BLS/healthcare certification.

Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of Advanced Practice Provider experience in oncology infusion coverage.
