Adolescent Guide

About the role

Compass Montessori Junior High, part of The Children’s House Independent Montessori School, is seeking a full-time Junior High Guide for 7th and 8th graders. Located in Traverse City, Michigan, the school offers an interdisciplinary, workshop-based learning environment that fosters independence, curiosity, community, and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Engage adolescents in individual and group work.
• Develop and implement interdisciplinary lessons that encourage hands-on learning.
• Foster a supportive, community-oriented classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design innovative and engaging curricula.
• Travel overnight with adolescents (up to 24 nights per year).
• Support students in their personal growth, social development, and academic journey.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher degree with a focus in education, specific area(s) of study (English, Mathematics, Science, History/Humanities, Economics, Arts, Physical Education), and teaching experience with adolescents.
• Strong commitment/interest in Montessori principles, passion for working with middle school students, organized, assertive, humble, compassionate, curious, and patient.
• Experience in designing interdisciplinary, experiential learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and independent exploration.
• Enthusiasm for professional growth, including the potential to earn an AMI Adolescent Diploma (sponsorship provided).
• Excitement for travel, including van, plane, train, boat, and foot trips to various locations.
