Duties And Responsibilities
- Obtain residents’ insurance information, when possible, at the time a referral is called in.
- If insurance information is not available, obtain it from the screener immediately.
- Obtain the following information from all potential residents: PRI, complete admission application, and proper insurance verification.
- Complete dialysis packages for referral at time of receipt.
- Follow-up on all accepted dialysis referrals daily.
- Ensure acceptance of referral immediately upon receiving HD clearance.
- Maintain an admissions filing system as devised by the Admissions Director.
- Assist in developing procedures to ensure records are properly completed before filing.
- Communicate insurance approval within thirty (30) minutes to the screener as soon as it is received to expedite admission of potential resident(s).
- Stay in constant communication with all screeners throughout the day.
- Relay admissions information quickly and efficiently to the Admissions Director, Administrator, and all other departments, if necessary.
- Assure that all departments receive the necessary information to prepare for admission (i.e. medications, treatments, and any special needs).
- Assist potential residents and their families by conducting tours of the Facility and answer questions regarding the Facility and admissions process.
- Provide residents with an admission information packet (e.g., resident rights, notice of privacy practices, admissions contract, etc.).
- Review as necessary.
- At the time of admission, meet with the resident and their families to assure all necessary forms are completed.
- Provide forms to the Business Office.
- Receive and follow work schedules or instructions from your supervisor and as outlined in our established policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the Facility.
- Assure that work areas are clean and records, files, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.
- Forward completed medical records to the appropriate department, if necessary.
- Notify nursing service when the resident has arrived at the Facility to assure that a member of the nursing staff escorts the resident to their assigned room.
- If none is available, accompany the resident to their assigned room.
- Review and explain the resident and/or guardian room rates, billing procedures, visitors and guest privileges, restrictions, resident care procedures, etc., as appropriate.
- Keep abreast of current Medicare and Medicaid regulations governing admission and discharge requirements of health care facilities.
Specific Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Knowledgeable in Medicare requirements and insurance providers i.e., HMO rules, Medicare rules, RUGS II & III, and Medicare prescription plans.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public.
- Must possess the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing admission practices.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must be able to evaluate the performance, initiate disciplinary actions, and prepare and complete performance evaluations for personnel.
- Be knowledgeable in the use of computers (Excel, Word, and Access), data input, retrieval and output functions, etc.
