About the role

The Administrator in Training (AIT) Program is a full-time, multi-month program designed for individuals looking to start a career in healthcare executive leadership as a Nursing Home Administrator. The AIT obtains practical on-the-job training in a nursing home environment under the direct supervision of an experienced Administrator preceptor/mentor.

The program includes:

• Rotation through various departments and duties in a skilled nursing facility
• Education on the interrelationships of the facility with outside parties and government agencies (such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)
• Study of regulations and requirements associated with operating a skilled nursing facility
• Business and fiscal accounting management
• Principles of risk management and healthcare compliance

AIT candidates must meet the minimum regulatory requirements for licensure in Texas. Long-term success in the role depends on the individual’s performance and motivation.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience in all aspects of nursing home administration
• Learn to effectively manage personnel, residents, family members, visitors, physicians, government agencies, and the general public under various circumstances
• Develop leadership and mentorship skills to bring out the best in managers and staff
• Apply business management principles guided by strong values and ethics

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a skilled nursing facility, nursing home, or comparable long-term care environment is required
• Passion for serving and protecting the frail, sick, and elderly
• Professional and tactful demeanor, especially under stressful or emotional circumstances
• Inspirational leadership and mentorship abilities
• Strong sense of business management and ethics

Qualifications

• MBA or MHA preferred, but other advanced degrees or a Bachelor’s Degree will be considered
• Prior business management experience preferred
