Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for Career Education and Equity, the Administrative Support Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the Career Education team and ensures alignment with university, division, and department policies and procedures while cultivating cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of contacts including university officials, administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

About the Role

This position provides comprehensive administrative support and coordination for the Career Education Team, with responsibilities including operations; budget and personnel support; communication and implementation of policies and procedures; data entry and tracking related to various career education engagement projects; and coordinating first-year impact programming and projects in a busy office while supporting the Associate Director.

The mission of Career Services is to empower Cal Poly students to achieve a lifetime of meaningful career success. We promote and support effective professional relationships between the university and employers. A full range of programs and services are offered to assist students with career planning, job exploration, job search strategies, pre-career work experience, pre-employment preparation, employment development, graduate school exploration, and other related areas.

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist;
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to the work area;
  • Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions;
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise resourcefulness, and independently follow through on job duties;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak and present information to groups and revise and produce written materials for promotions, presentations, workshops, and marketing purposes.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Five years of general office support or technical experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience).

Salary And Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $52,404 - $66,456 Per Year
Classification Range: $52,404 - $76,344 Per Year

  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
