The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Community Access, Bureau of Child Support Services is seeking an Administrative Support Assistant 3 to join our team. At Child Support Services, we help the families of Iowa successfully navigate and understand the importance of providing both financial and emotional support for their children by building relationships with the parents to ensure they are successful.

About the role

This is a full-time opportunity, Monday – Friday with hours from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Upon successful completion of the training period and with management approval, this position offers a hybrid work opportunity, working from home and office as scheduled. This position requires a driver’s license and the ability to travel on occasion. The role is based at the Fort Dodge Child Support Office located at 801 1st Ave S, Fort Dodge, IA 50501.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative office duties and casework activities as a member of an office team for parents in need of paternity, medical and support establishment, modification of existing orders, enforcement, and monitoring of support orders.
  • Communicates with a variety of community partners including human service agencies, employers, clerks of court, county sheriff, attorneys, and other entities to achieve the goals of the Child Support Program through phone calls, emails, and other written correspondence.
  • Independently analyzes a variety of complex case situations and legal scenarios to determine the appropriate action, including technical, clerical, and support work to assist in the implementation of local program goals and objectives for achieving statewide success for the Child Support Program.
  • Assists with establishment and specialized enforcement tasks as well as location activities utilizing the internet, databases, and various automated systems.
  • Uses Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) proficiently and has the aptitude to learn other computerized systems, including ICAR, which is critically important for success in this position.
  • Comprehends and adheres to confidentiality provisions in the Code of Iowa.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with critical thinking skills and executing complex tasks independently.
  • Customer service, including de-escalation of conflictual or adversarial situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and report composition.
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and consultation.
  • Managing multiple deadlines.
  • Extreme accuracy in mathematical calculations and timelines.
  • Completion and successful passing of a level 5 criminal background check, including fingerprinting.
  • Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license is required to utilize state vehicles.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for this position:

  • Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.

This position is located at the Fort Dodge Child Support office in downtown Fort Dodge.
