About the role

Oregon’s Department of Revenue is recruiting for an Administrative Specialist 2 position in the Personal Tax and Compliance Division, Return Review Team 2. This role is headquartered in Salem, and the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work, combining onsite duties with remote work. To be considered, applicants must reside within the state of Oregon; current Revenue employees living outside Oregon may also apply.

Responsibilities

  • Review and compute amended personal income tax returns on accounts converted from the legacy tax system.
  • Communicate with taxpayers, tax practitioners, and attorneys by phone or mail to request required or missing information.
  • Determine through tax law and judgment whether taxpayers or tax preparers are knowingly attempting to claim a credit when not eligible.
  • Analyze accounts and taxpayer history to assess return filing compliance based on agency policy and standards.
  • Use a specialized online computer system to verify or adjust suspended tax returns of all residency statuses.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local tax laws to apply the correct legal standards to each case.

Requirements

  • Three years of secretarial or administrative support experience, including coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis; OR
  • An associate degree in general office occupations and two years of secretarial or administrative support experience, including coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay

Salary range: $4,312 – $5,988 per month. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will include an additional 6.95%.

This is a SEIU-represented position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; VISA sponsorship is not available. Employment is contingent on passing a criminal background and fingerprinting check. The Department of Revenue will verify compliance with Oregon income tax laws before extending an offer.
