About the Role
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is one of the largest departments in Maryland, with nearly 12,000 employees and a budget exceeding $1 billion. We are committed to promoting safety through enhanced security at our institutions and innovative restorative justice projects that aid offender reintegration into society. This position provides secretarial support to the Chief of Security and covers the Warden and Assistant Warden's Offices as needed, ensuring smooth and efficient operations in both offices.
Responsibilities
- Performs general administrative functions independently.
- Maintains the process of development, review, and maintenance of Post Orders.
- Develops and maintains the process to log, track, and review all Serious Incident Report Packets and Use of Force Report Packets for accuracy and consistency.
- Routes incoming correspondence and distributes mail directed to the Chief of Security.
- Drafts and prepares correspondence from rough draft, corrected copy, or dictation for the Chief of Security.
Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
- Additional secretarial or clerical experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may substitute at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience, for up to two years of the required experience.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience performing clerical duties (including the use of Google Docs & Google Sheets) for an Administrator in a Correctional Facility.
- One year of experience gathering and submitting timely information for Security Operations.
Special Requirements
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
