Responsibilities
- Supports and enforces current hospital clinical and administrative policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, CT State Department of Health Codes, and other state and federal legislation/law.
- Reports all unusual occurrences to the "Administrator on Call", documents as appropriate.
- Collaborates with the Charge RN as well as other department charge personnel.
- Directs patient care in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Contributes to the overall budget goals.
- Participates in operational meetings.
- Reviews patient charts for quality compliance to support the nurse Manager and improve patient care.
- Participates in compliance and staff education.
- Oversees and directs care and facility needs on off hours.
- Supports unit and hospital goals.
- Communicates with Leadership team routinely.
- Supports and enforces current hospital clinical and administrative policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, CT State Department of Health Codes, and other state and federal legislation/law.
- Coordinates all nursing units with respect to schedules, assignments, and quality of care on a 24 hour basis (with Nurse Managers) and documents as appropriate.
- Counsels employees in priority-setting and problem-solving and makes referrals to appropriate resources with documentation.
- Makes performance evaluations or provides input on staff performance.
- Participates in follow-up/support during clinical orientation/education.
- Uses knowledge and experience to continuously contribute to the development of nursing department goals and objectives.
- Supplements and/or obtains supplies, equipment, medications, and/or medical records, etc. to facilitate the delivery of quality patient care.
- Observes and supports a safe working environment and reports concerns/issues to Safety Officer and/or Infection Control Coordinator.
- Strives to work within the budgetary limits and within organizational cost guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with the Union contract.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, critical thinking and communication skills.
- Must be able to problem solve and effectively resolve conflict across all departments in organization.
Other Information
- Minimum Experience: five years
- Desired: Master of Science (preferred in Nursing).
- Advanced nursing specialty certification.
