Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical support for an independent central panel of Administrative Law Judges conducting administrative proceedings for County departments, agencies, boards, and commissions. Assists with the adjudication process for violations related to the Departments of Revenue, Building and Zoning, Environmental Control, Animal Control, Public Health, Cook County Sheriff, and Forest Preserve District. Maintains records and files of revenue, taxes, licenses, and permit fees collected under relevant measures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support to Administrative Law Judges during administrative proceedings.
  • Assist with the adjudication process for violations across multiple County departments.
  • Maintain and organize Administrative Hearing records and files, including revenue, taxes, licenses, and permit fees.
  • Perform general office duties and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of full-time clerical or administrative work experience.
  • Candidates must produce original required documents (e.g., driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications) within five (5) days of a written offer.
  • Degrees awarded outside the United States (except those from U.S. territories or Canada) must be credentialed by WES, ECE, or a NACES member organization.

Skills

  • General knowledge of legal terminology and court-related documents.
  • Proficiency in correct language usage, punctuation, grammar, and their application to business forms, letters, and technical records.
  • Familiarity with technical and legal terms and their proper spelling.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Accuracy in organizing, controlling, and maintaining files and records.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to gather information, make inquiries, and explain office policies and procedures.
  • Sound judgment in problem-solving and appropriate problem escalation.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail, including proofreading, verifying, and editing complex data.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and relay them to others.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to fill in for lower-level clerical staff or assist higher-level clerical/secretarial staff as needed.

This position offers a hybrid work environment with telecommuting and flexible scheduling options. Successful completion of post-offer tests, including a background check, drug screen, and medical examination, is required.

Pay

$25.148 hourly

Veterans who meet the minimum qualifications and provide a copy of their DD 214, DD 215, or NGB 22 (Notice of Separation) at the time of application filing receive preference in the application process.
