Summary
The UNC School of Medicine Dean’s Office Administrative Fellowship is a one-year leadership development program that provides broad exposure to the administration of a leading academic medical institution.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Administration, the fellow will work closely with executive leaders on strategic initiatives spanning education, research, clinical programs, finance, human resources, facilities, and organizational operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support strategic initiatives for School of Medicine leadership.
- Collaborate with leaders across key administrative functions.
- Conduct analysis and develop recommendations to inform decision-making.
- Participate in executive meetings, projects, and organizational initiatives.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and communications for senior leaders.
- Engage in leadership development and cross-functional learning experiences.
Learning Objectives
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the administrative functions that support a leading academic medical institution.
- Gain exposure to the interconnected missions of medical education, biomedical research, clinical care, and service.
- Build leadership, project management, communication, and change management skills.
- Establish relationships with senior leaders, faculty, administrators, and fellow learners across UNC Health and the School of Medicine.
- Explore career pathways in academic medicine administration and healthcare leadership.
Reporting Relationship
The Administrative Fellow reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Administration and will receive guidance from executive sponsors, mentors, and leaders throughout the School of Medicine.
Program Length
The fellowship is one year long.
Location
The fellowship is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

- Education Requirements: Completion of a Master's degree in a healthcare-related field, or Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and actively pursuing a Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field with successful completion of Master's degree coursework.
