About the role
Cottage Health is a leading acute care hospital system on the central coast of California, founded in 1888. The Administrative Fellowship Program aims to develop future healthcare leaders through immersive learning, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates Healthcare Executive Competencies as outlined by ACHE’s current Competency Assessment Tool.
- Communication and Relationship Management: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external customers, establish and maintain relationships, and facilitate constructive interactions.
- Leadership: Ability to inspire individual and organizational excellence, create a shared vision, and successfully manage change to attain the organization’s strategic ends and successful performance.
- Professionalism: Ability to align personal and organizational conduct with ethical and professional standards that include a responsibility to the patient and community, a service orientation, and a commitment to lifelong learning and improvement.
- Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment: Understanding of the healthcare system and the environment in which healthcare managers and providers function.
- Business Skills and Knowledge: Ability to apply business principles, including systems thinking, to the healthcare environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum: MHA, MPH, or MBA degree from an accredited program in hospital/healthcare administration.
Requirements
This well-established program requires recent Master of Healthcare Administration graduate students to gain hands-on exposure across a high-performing, community-focused health system. Fellows participate in a variety of rotational assignments, strategic initiatives, and executive-level mentorship that reflect Cottage Health’s mission to provide superior healthcare through a commitment to our patients, employees, and the broader community.

The Administrative Fellowship Program values diverse perspectives and supports talented individuals in achieving their leadership goals. Fellows are guided by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) competencies, ensuring a comprehensive foundation in healthcare operations, strategy, and organizational leadership.

Pay
Pay for non-physician positions is determined based on related years of experience and internal equity. Eligible employees may also receive additional forms of compensation, including shift differentials, on-call pay, incentive pay, and bonus opportunities, where applicable.
Schedule
Manager and above positions may participate in Cottage Health’s annual management incentive program. Physician compensation is determined based upon specialty and may include bonus potential.
