Provide operational and administrative support to the COM Faculty and Staff.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries and function as liaison between faculty, administrators, staff, students, and other outside contacts on a daily basis.
  • Manage incoming calls and refer to appropriate individuals.
  • Coordinate activities and events for the assigned departments.
  • Coordinate travel and accommodations for conferences.
  • Coordinate all details of meetings, including distributing meeting notices, arranging refreshments, taking minutes, preparing materials for distribution, and timely distribution of the meeting minutes.
  • Prepare purchase orders, check requests, and other financial documents for assigned departments.
  • Maintain and update current files.
  • Type memos, letters, and minutes of meetings.
  • Open and distribute mail as requested.
  • Assist in preparation of presentations.
  • Other duties as requested and/or assigned.
  • Strictly adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
  • Tier 2: May help train other administrative assistants.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience – Tier 1:
    • High school degree or GED required.
    • One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in administrative or clerical role.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and Blackboard.
    • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously of a routine and complex nature.
    • Strong ability to work with and learn a variety of computer systems.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Demonstrate time management skills and organizational skills.
    • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Education and Experience – Tier 2:
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in administrative or clerical role.
    • Ability to coordinate and lead events independently, with minimal to no supervision.

    • Ability to understand, read, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
    • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
    • Demonstrated strong organizational and clerical skills, including knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Microsoft Office, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
    • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent computer skills.
    • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply knowledge of guidelines, policies, and procedures in a variety of situations.
    • Ability to contribute to a team environment and recognize each team member's strengths and contributions.

    • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
    • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
    • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
    • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
    • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.

Working Conditions

  • The working environment is a climate-controlled setting, well-lighted, with a moderate noise level.
  • Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.
  • If required to travel, the use of a personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be necessary. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required.

Pay

$15.38 - $18.27 per hour. Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions.

Full time, onsite.
