About the role
Provides administrative support to a team of surgery schedulers: obtain authorizations and/or clearances from insurance companies, complete documents for hospitals and/or surgery centers per their requirements, verify patient eligibility, draft correspondence, and obtain patient records as needed. Frequent phone work as well as work in electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and obtain all pre-operative documents (including but not limited to labs, EKGs, test results) as requested by the physician and/or physician protocols.
- Obtain precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test.
- Answer questions appropriately from patients; triage when necessary. De-escalate any patient interaction if/when needed.
- Coordinate all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery, using physician-approved forms and checklists.
- Respond to written and telephone inquiries from patients and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
- Maintain communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times.
- Model organizational values and represent Excelsior/Buffalo Surgery Center with every internal/external communication.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years experience providing administrative support in a medical office setting.
- EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Physical Demands
- Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Involves standing, sitting, and walking.
- Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.

The pay range for this position is determined based on several factors, including the candidate's years of experience, qualifications, training, licenses, designations, and overall market conditions.
