About the Role

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI) seeks to reengineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. The Administrative Assistant will support the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP) Brownsville/East New York office, managing diverse administrative and logistical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the front desk and waiting room, greeting visitors, collecting information, and ensuring clients’ needs are addressed professionally.
  • Set up, log, and manage distribution of participant resources.
  • Address emergency situations, crises, or escalations in collaboration with clinical supervisors, security/court officers, or other staff.
  • Support the Operations Coordinator in office maintenance, including storage pickups, organization, and liaising with facilities for repairs.
  • Handle fiscal responsibilities, such as submitting and monitoring invoices, and assist with reconciliations.
  • Manage inventory of office supplies and equipment across multiple locations.
  • Assist staff with general tech issues and liaise with the CJI Tech Department.
  • Support setup for special events, groups, and site visits, including ordering food, tech setup, and arranging materials.
  • Assist with the distribution and logging of MetroCards and phones.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or associate degree with 1-2 years of experience in an office/human service field preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (English-Spanish or other languages).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sensitivity to engaging individuals with mental health and substance use needs.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and software preferred.

Position Details

Type: Full-time, with weekend and evening hours as needed.
Location: Brooklyn, NY, with regular commute between Downtown Brooklyn and Brownsville/East New York offices.
Compensation: $28.57 - $35.11 per hour ($52,000 - $63,900 annually based on a 35-hour workweek), commensurate with experience.
Union: Part of the NOLSW, UAW 2320 bargaining unit.
