What You Will Do

  • Captures and coordinates nursing activities on assigned shift in alignment with hospital philosophy and objectives.
  • Serves as a liaison between hospital departments and services, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Promotes efficient communication systems within the hospital, facilitating the flow of information.
  • Solves problems and troubleshoots issues affecting hospital operations or patient care.
  • Maintains quality monitoring and evaluation activities, implementing necessary measures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Affirms current areas of nursing practice and offers recommendations to leadership.
  • Assists nursing staff during emergencies or when needed.
  • Performs unit rounds to assess nursing care and patient responses.
  • Supports nursing staff, prioritizing those with identified staffing or patient care needs.
  • Serves as a mentor and provides guidance to nursing staff, especially during new or unusual procedures.
  • Provides technical assistance and direction to nursing staff and other disciplines.
  • Allocates staffing resources between units based on census and patient acuity.
  • Manages patient placement and throughput to enhance staffing and placement efficiency.
  • Handles patient and parent complaints in the absence of the Patient Advocate, documenting actions taken.

Education & Formal Training Requirements

  • Required: Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Work Experience Requirements

  • Required: Clinical nursing experience of 3-5 years
  • Preferred: Supervisory experience of 1-3 years

Licenses & Certifications Requirements

  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse - Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and listening abilities
  • Basic computer literacy

Physical Demands

  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently
  • Close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact
  • Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations
