Job Summary
The Music Area of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Angelo State University seeks to fill the position of Adjunct Double Reed Instructor for the 2024-25 academic year. This position calls for an individual with a commitment to undergraduate Music Education who will teach applied double reeds (bassoon and oboe).
Essential Duties
- Teach applied lessons in oboe and bassoon, a weekly studio class, reed making, and chamber ensembles as assigned.
- In the Spring semester the teaching load includes the double reed section of a Woodwind Methods class.
- Additional courses may be assigned based upon experience and the needs of the music area.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Music with focus in Oboe or Bassoon.
- Proven record of teaching both oboe and bassoon students.
- Experience teaching reed making for both oboe and bassoon.
- Experience in teaching Woodwind Methods.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Skill in musicianship, rehearsal techniques, and effectiveness as a teacher of university level music students.
- Ability to successfully recruit and retain students.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a university environment and meet the needs of a diverse student body.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate or ABD (with doctorate conferred at time of appointment) in music, with focus in Oboe or Bassoon.
- Experience in teaching Woodwind Methods.
- Experience teaching reed making for both oboe and bassoon.
Pay
- Doctorate: $3,230 per course
- Masters: $2,584 per course
