Adjunct Instructor - African American Studies
About the role
Olive-Harvey College is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach African American Studies. The position requires a master’s degree or higher in African American Studies, History, or a related field, and prior experience with online teaching is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Create courses aligned with learning outcomes and promote student engagement.
- Employ various assessments to evaluate student progress and learning.
- Lead discussions and provide feedback to enhance student understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborate with other faculty and support students in achieving their academic and career goals.
- Teach in-person and online classes, including those scheduled during morning, afternoon, and evening hours.
- Maintain accurate student records and conduct weekly conferences.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in African American Studies, History, or related discipline.
- Experience with Brightspace Learning Management System or similar platforms.
- Prior experience with online teaching and/or online teaching certification.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
- Commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate morning, afternoon, and evening class times.
- Ability to obtain an online teaching credential through the Community College of Chicago.
