About the role
The American Studies/Media & Communications Department at SUNY Old Westbury invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach courses on an as-needed basis. The department offers a B.A. in Black Studies and provides courses that fulfill general education requirements across the College.
Responsibilities
- Teach foundational courses in African American History and Culture, including Introduction to African American Studies, African Americans in Mass Media, and U.S. Social Movements.
- Teach additional relevant courses based on the candidate’s specialization.
- Candidates with experience teaching in hybrid or online modalities are encouraged to highlight this in their application.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Black Studies, American Studies, American History, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Black Studies, African American history, and/or the African diaspora.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in Black Studies or African diaspora courses.
- Experience teaching or mentoring a diverse, working adult student population.
