Adjunct Faculty, Professional Pilot

About the Role

Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Lone Star College accepts application material year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct faculty hiring is based on student demand. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year, including days, evenings, and weekends. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

The role involves teaching Professional Pilot courses, creating engaging lessons, advising students, evaluating student progress, and maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Faculty are also expected to attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required and ensure safety standards are met in accordance with FAA, AABI, and institutional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Teach Professional Pilot courses at various times and locations
• Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
• Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner
• Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
• Meet with and advise students either before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
• Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform students in a timely manner of their progress
• Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
• Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
• Ensure safety standards are met in accordance with FAA, AABI, and institution requirements

• Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people
• Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities, and distance learning
• Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and the effective use of technology
• Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in any field
• Current FAA certifications of both Certified Flight Instructor Airplane and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument OR both Advanced Ground Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor
• At least 3 years of non-teaching industry experience

Skills

The work is sedentary, typically involving sitting comfortably to perform tasks. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (up to 10 pounds), or driving an automobile. The role requires the ability to give and receive detailed information through oral communication and to convey detailed or important spoken instructions accurately and concisely.

Pay

$69.74 per contact hour.
