Adjunct Faculty - Music - Recording Technology

Adjunct needs are determined on a semester-by-semester basis, with the number of sections offered varying each term. Classes are held at various times Monday through Saturday in Hybrid, Online, and Virtual modalities.

About the Role

The College seeks candidates to teach courses in the Recording Technology program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success, ensuring a high-quality learning experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach GRCC course offering(s) for Recording Technology in the Music Department, which may include:
  • Basic Studio Techniques
  • Advanced Studio Techniques
  • Live Sound Reinforcement
  • MIDI Sequencing
• Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members:
  • Follow the required syllabus template and use the required textbook as determined by the department.
  • Meet classes during the scheduled time and for the appropriate length of time required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • State course outcomes clearly at the beginning of the course and outline the criteria and procedures for evaluating student attainment of these objectives.
  • Promote an intellectually stimulating classroom atmosphere conducive to high academic achievement and stated course outcomes.
  • Keep accurate student academic records and report grades by the contractual deadline.
  • Make reasonable accommodations as approved by Disability Support Services to meet students’ needs in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Follow College policy on the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Respond to communication in a timely manner and provide reasonable means for student access to course information.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Music with at least 5 years of professional experience.
• Experience with larger format recording/live sound audio consoles, including current audio interfaces and DANTE setup and virtual interfaces.
• Professional experience with Reaper or Logic Pro.
• Live sound capability and experience, along with ethernet-based interface and DANTE setups.
• Knowledge of current hardware, such as microphones and recording devices.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Professional film sound experience.
• Professional experience with MIDI Sequencing.
• AVID Pro Tools certified instructor status.
• DANTE Certification – Level 2 minimum.
• Professional experience with electronics repair/installation or a degree/certificate in electronics.
• Involvement in professional organizations.
• College teaching experience.
• Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills.

Skills

• Demonstrated expertise in the subject area with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong musical background.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and faculty team.
• Proficiency in using instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Google, Canvas).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands

• Some evening work (teaching, grading, preparing for class, responding to email questions) may be needed.
• Lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
