About the Role

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of Lone Star College and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach Music courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the system.

Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year, including days, evenings, and weekends. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Music courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students either before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
  • Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in music or master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in music

Work Environment

  • The work is sedentary; typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. Some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items may be required.
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
  • Equipment used includes PC workstations running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculators, phones, and other general office or discipline-specific equipment.
  • Hours vary depending on class times; instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction.

Pay

$56.55 per contact hour.

LSC-Houston North Fallbrook delivers higher education opportunities to a traditionally underserved area of Houston. The 55,000 square-foot facility offers 14 classrooms, two computer labs, and two science labs for students to take core courses to earn Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees.
