Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor, with the fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reporting directly to the Board. Located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just half a mile from Interstate 95, Cecil College is easily accessible from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington, Delaware, and surrounding areas. The College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students, offering associate degrees, certificate programs, and non-credit classes through an open admissions policy.

Employees, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must reside in Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S., as the College does not offer visa sponsorships.

About the Role

Cecil College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Professor of Music to teach private one-on-one music lessons to undergraduate students. The ideal candidate will specialize in a specific instrument and provide individualized instruction that fosters technical proficiency, artistic growth, and academic development in accordance with departmental standards.

Adjunct Faculty are contract employees hired to teach specific courses during an academic term on a part-time basis and are not eligible for benefits. For a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), Adjunct Faculty may teach no more than 24 credit hours. Each course-specific contract will detail the faculty member’s name, employee number, course information, and payment amount.

Responsibilities

• Convey course material to enable students to attain instructional objectives.
• Complete course assessments if requested by the Department Chairperson.
• Ensure all course material is available to students on the first day of class via Cecil College’s Learning Management System.
• Meet program-specific requirements for employment and supervision of students in externship or capstone courses.
• Hold classes for the full amount of time specified and notify the Academic Programs Office if unable to attend.
• Be reasonably accessible to students via email or in person and return assignments in a timely manner.
• Facilitate quality learning experiences through lectures, videos, demonstrations, and role-play.
• Teach assigned hours or contact hours per week and assist with student advisement and remediation.
• Document attendance and grades using the College’s Academic Monitoring and Learning Management System.
• Submit grades and end-of-semester documentation in a timely manner.
• Use the assigned College email account for all communications and check it daily.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a related discipline.
• Prior teaching experience in a college/university setting in the related field.
• Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
• Current knowledge and skill in using information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, email, databases) or proven ability to learn these skills.
• Ability to work with students with special needs in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

Physical Demands

This position involves sedentary work, including lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally carrying small items. While the role primarily involves sitting, some walking and standing may be required to carry out job duties.

Work Environment

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, or training spaces. Normal safety precautions are required, such as safe use of office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and adherence to fire, building safety, and traffic regulations when driving.

Pay

The Fiscal Year 2027 Credit Adjunct Scale is as follows:

• For individuals with less than a Master’s + 60 credits or equivalent:
  • $840 per credit hour (less than 2 semesters at Cecil).
  • $865 per credit hour (more than 2 semesters at Cecil).
• For individuals with a Master’s + 60 credits, or an earned doctorate:
  • $865 per credit hour (less than 2 semesters at Cecil).
  • $890 per credit hour (more than 2 semesters at Cecil).
