About the role

Adjunct faculty position for in-person instruction in the Department of Natural Sciences at Bowie State University, teaching undergraduate Human Anatomy & Physiology courses (BIOL 311 and BIOL 312) and their associated lab components. These courses serve upperclassmen in the Department of Natural Sciences and freshmen/sophomores in the Department of Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Human Anatomy & Physiology I (BIOL 311) covering:
    • Chemical, cellular, and tissue levels of organization
    • Integumentary system
    • Skeletal tissue (bone tissue, axial and appendicular systems)
    • Joints
    • Muscular tissue
    • Nervous system, spinal cord, spinal nerves, brain, cranial nerves
    • Autonomic nervous system
    • Sensory and motor systems
  • Teach undergraduate Human Anatomy & Physiology II (BIOL 312) covering:
    • Endocrine system
    • Blood and hematocrit
    • Heart anatomy and cardiovascular system (blood vessels and hemodynamics)
    • Respiratory system
    • Renal system
    • Gastrointestinal tract
    • Metabolism
    • Reproduction
  • Develop and implement innovative laboratory experiences
  • Incorporate high-impact engagement strategies in the classroom

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher with at least 15 graduate credits in Biology, Applied Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, or related fields with specialization in Physiology
  • Completion of 30 hours in an accredited doctoral program is acceptable
  • Preferred: Doctoral degree in Anatomy and Physiology, Biology with emphasis on Anatomy and Physiology, Nursing or Nursing Practitioner, or closely related field
  • Teaching experience at the college level in the area of concentration strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations, including traditional and non-traditional students
  • Experience with online teaching and course management programs
  • Experience in course development, assessment, planning, and accreditation processes preferred
