About the role

Waubonsee Community College invites applications for a part-time instructor position for Developmental English (Integrated Reading and Writing) courses. Adjunct Faculty provide high-quality instruction and assess student learning through both formative and summative methods. This role requires exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to effectively utilize instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Reporting to the Dean, Adjunct Faculty prepare course syllabi and design lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments tailored to different learning styles, ensuring students meet course objectives and outcomes. They incorporate learner-centered principles and motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational experience. Adjunct Faculty evaluate student performance and maintain timely and accurate records, including attendance verifications, academic progress, and final course grades.

Successful candidates adopt a holistic approach to student success, bringing passion and enthusiasm to the classroom. They collaborate effectively with students and colleagues and work constructively with individuals from diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities. They demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Responsibilities

• Design syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the established course description as well as program, course, and college learning outcomes and/or objectives while addressing each student’s needs as diverse learners.
• Meet all college deadlines for submission of attendance, grades, and data collection for assessment of student learning.
• Incorporate learning-centered principles and concepts while motivating students to actively participate in their educational experiences.
• Integrate instructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning.
• Work collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.
• Model professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

• ENG080.600 Reading/Writing Fundamentals: Sugar Grove Campus, Wednesdays, 6:30 PM – 9:15 PM, August 17, 2026 – December 12, 2026.
• ENG085.600 Basic Integrated Reading/Writing: Sugar Grove Campus, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 PM – 8:45 PM, August 17, 2026 – December 12, 2026.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Education, or Reading from an accredited college.
• Competency in technologies commonly used in college-level instruction (Canvas & Zoom).
• Experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in English, English Education, or Reading.
• Experience teaching Developmental English at a community college or university.
• Experience with ELL students.

Pay

Minimum starting rate: $3,363.00 (Fall Semester).
