About the role
The Criminal Justice Department at GRCC is seeking an adjunct instructor for the Police Academy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in policing and a commitment to diversity and equity.
Responsibilities
- Teach Police skills: subject control, tactical skills and tactical operations.
- Apply the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) to meet course objectives.
- Perform teaching demonstrations and create scenario-based training in the classroom.
- Provide a stimulating classroom environment and follow syllabus requirements.
- Ensure students have access to course information and comply with GRCC policies.
- Maintain accurate student records to meet GRCC and MCOLES reporting requirements.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4,000 hours worked as a Police Officer in the state of Michigan.
- Certified instructor in subject control tactics from an MCOLES supported program.
Qualifications
- Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of common police practices.
- Ability to present and implement complex ideas and concepts from lecture to lab application.
- Skills in active listening, social perceptiveness, and critical thinking.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems (Google Workspace tools: Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drive, Canvas).
