About the role
The City of Bellevue is seeking enthusiastic and caring individuals to join the Adaptive Recreation team at Highland Community Center. This is a part-time position offering exciting classes and activities for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate all aspects of recreation within assigned program for participants
- Responsible for assigned class activities
- Coaches
- Performs data entry for program management
- Leads volunteers
- Teaches (small classes)
- Creates displays
- Adapts course material to participant ability level
- Accounts for participants during programs
- Provides assistance feeding participants
- Does word processing
- Prepares and sets up programs; explains program requirements
- Operates specialized equipment
- Applies basic first aid when necessary
- Aids in set up, maintenance, and/or operation of data management processes
- Works in more than one assignment in the Recreation Division
- Serves as a resource for other staff members
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 1-year prior work experience or education in recreation or a related field
- Prior experience with children or adults living with intellectual disabilities
- First Aid, CPR, or other specialized training or experience will be required
Supplemental Information
- Physical Demands: Walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work will be emotionally demanding or stressful.
- Work Environment: Both indoors and outdoors. Work will be physically demanding (participation in athletics, lifting heavy loads, potentially dangerous situations, etc.).
Conditions of Employment
- All candidates will be required to establish employment authorization and identity at the time of hire.
- The City is not able to sponsor work visas.
- Positions may require completion of references checks, including at least one prior supervisor.
- Positions may require completion of a criminal background check prior to start employment.
- Positions may require obtaining a commercial driver's license (CDL), licenses, or additional certifications.
