Job Summary
We are recruiting a full-time Adaptive Recreation Specialist to facilitate the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in PRCS programs at the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center. The Adaptive Recreation Specialist will concentrate on creating inclusive opportunities for individuals of all ages, which includes the planning, administration, and assessment of a sensory room designed to accommodate various needs. The role will additionally offer direction and assistance to various programs at the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center.
Responsibilities
- Create, market, and oversee adaptive recreation programming for ARCC’s sensory room and adaptive recreation programming through social media, PRCS Activity Guides, and community outreach.
- Develop and implement community awareness and educational outreach programs to promote inclusion.
- Provide expert advice and technical guidance regarding ADA regulations.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to develop and implement personalized support plans for individuals with disabilities.
- Monitor and uphold inclusion performance standards while ensuring the accuracy of participant files and records.
- Facilitate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and regular assessment of part-time staff involved in adaptive recreation instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent;
- Four (4) years related work experience;
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, or a related field is preferred.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- ADA Coordinator certification.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
- Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory role.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
- Must undergo criminal background, pre-employment fingerprinting, and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
- Obtain First Aid (infant through adult) and CPR certification before or immediately after hire—the capability to lift 75 pounds and aid with participant transfers.
- TB tests must be passed within 30 days of hiring and annually thereafter.
- Complete the county e-learning training as required.
