ACTUARY SENIOR

About the role

The California Department of Insurance (CDI) protects consumers in the nation’s largest insurance marketplace, overseeing more than 1,400 insurance companies and licensing over 425,000 agents, brokers, adjusters, and business entities. This position is for a Senior Casualty Actuary (Actuary Senior) within the Rate Actuary Office, with possible headquarters in Los Angeles, Oakland, or Sacramento and hybrid telework options. It is a permanent, full‑time role with a salary range of $13,413.00 – $16,794.00 per month.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of consultative and analytical assignments related to Property and Casualty insurance rate regulation.
• Provide support for assignments requested by or in concert with the Commissioner and other Department branches as required.
• Offer mentorship and guidance to other actuarial staff.
• Work on the most sophisticated and complex actuarial analysis projects under the direction of the Actuary Supervisor.
• Participate in governmental decisions that may have a material effect on personal financial interests (Conflict of Interest Code).
• Complete the Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) – Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and Leaving Office filing within 30 days of separation.

Requirements

• Experience in complex actuarial analysis projects.
• Ability to conduct consultative and analytical assignments for Property and Casualty insurance rate regulation.
• Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to other actuarial staff.
• Ability to support assignments requested by the Commissioner and other Department branches.
• Compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code, including timely Form 700 filings.

Pay

$13,413.00 – $16,794.00 per month (salary range for the ACTUARY SENIOR classification).
