Activity Specialist - Older Adults (Castle Hill YMCA)

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate a monthly calendar of activities (games and sports, arts and crafts, technology, birthday celebrations, excursions, etc.)
  • Distribute the calendar of activities and manage participant sign-ups.
  • Promote engagement in recreational activities that stimulate the mind and body to support emotional and physical health.
  • Ensure activities are engaging, suitable, and enjoyable for Older Active Adults.
  • Ensure facility and safety guidelines are followed.
  • Distribute and collect satisfaction surveys, collate the data, and adjust activities accordingly.
  • Take and maintain attendance and/or an interactions log and submit it to the Data Manager daily.
  • Purchase the items needed for activities, setting up rooms for activities, and events.
  • Oversee participants to ensure they are safe and following the rules and instructions.
  • Report and document incidents as mandated by the YMCA of Greater New York and funders.
  • Attend meetings, in-service training, and workshops as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Model the best practices of hospitality and positive culture.
  • Support all aspects of programming, including, but not limited to, community outreach, recruitment, and participant outreach.
  • Work enthusiastically as part of a team.
  • Participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Associate's Degree required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with older adults.
  • Experience in facilitating classes, groups, and activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, internet, and database administration.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and establish positive relationships with participants, the community, collaborators, and partnerships.
  • Ability and interest in working with diverse populations.
