Activity Specialist (West Side YMCA)
General Information
The YMCA of Greater New York is dedicated to empowering youth, improving health, and strengthening community. Founded in 1852, the Y serves over half a million New Yorkers through various programs and services at 24 branches.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong service and hospitality through interpersonal relationships with all members, participants, and YMCA employees.
- Ensure ongoing communication with the Membership department.
- Serve as a resource for member questions, concerns, or needs.
- Enforce established YMCA policies, procedures, guidelines, and Code of Conduct.
- Monitor the Art Studio entrance and ensure access is granted only to authorized individuals.
- Aid members and program participants in effectively utilizing materials and equipment.
- Continuously monitor all areas of the Art Studio to ensure proper usage and adherence to policies and guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness of the space and equipment.
- Embody the YMCA core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of all spaces, materials, supplies, and equipment utilized.
- Monitor the Art Studio entrance and ensure access is granted only to authorized individuals.
- Assist members and program participants in effectively utilizing materials and equipment.
- Continuously monitor all areas of the Art Studio to ensure proper usage and adherence to policies and guidelines.
- Maintain communication with supervision and maintenance staff to ensure thorough cleaning of the Art studio spaces.
- Inform the supervisor of needed supplies, including cleaning supplies, when applicable.
- Maintain attendance rosters of participants.
- Ensure participants exit the studio and/or facility after the program ends.
- Complete incidents/accident reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain the integrity of the Community Arts Department and the YMCA of Greater New York.
- Uphold all YMCA of Greater New York standards and guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as needed for the successful operation of the Art Studio and the programs offered by the YMCA.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree preferred.
- Experience in the Visual Arts field.
- Knowledge of ceramics is a must.
- Creativity and flexibility are a must.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
- Current First Aid or CPR certifications preferred.
