About the Role

We are seeking a Per Diem Activity Specialist to supervise and engage a group of school-age children in enriching activities during after-school hours. This includes assisting with homework, leading recreational and educational activities, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment. The Activity Specialist will have specialized skills and expertise in one or more content areas such as arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or organized sports.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of age-appropriate activities in one or more discipline or content area
• Provide direct supervision of youth activities
• Submit weekly activity plans
• Lead activities related to recreation and theme-based areas such as arts, dance, STEM, literacy, nutrition, or organized sports
• Assist in maintaining daily attendance records for program participants
• Assist in the provision of basic counseling services as needed (peer mediation, self-control, decision making)
• Accompany youth on cultural and recreational field trips
• Assist in ensuring a safe environment for program participants
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere
• Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate group activities
• Actively participate in all professional development sessions, supervision, and team meetings
• Maintain and organize activities and equipment
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (required)
• Associate's degree in child development, recreation, or a related field (preferred)
• Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working with youth in child development, recreation, or a related field
• Must be able to work in Coney Island, Brooklyn
• Availability to work Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
