About the role
As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision, all Youth Services Staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at our Grand Street Settlement sites. Our Activity Specialists will assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program and ensure that youth are learning and building hard skills.
Schedule
- September 2026
- Monday – Friday, 2 pm – 6 pm (availability within these hours)
- Up to 15 hours per week
Pay
$25 – $30 per hour
Responsibilities
- Complete 15 hours of training as per school-age child-care requirements within the first three months of hire and attend two mandatory agency-wide Professional Development trainings
- Supervise all participants, especially during special activities
- Maintain classroom space in an organized and clean fashion
- Maintain daily log of all incidents/injuries
- Chaperone youth group during trips and other field activities
- Assist with all aspects of programming (i.e., following organization’s mission; supervising all youth, working collectively and communicating with all staff)
- Perform administrative duties, including follow-up calls to parents
- Attend all required department/agency meetings and/or training
- Create lessons and curriculum around specialty
- Implement and facilitate projects and recreational activities for the school year or summer camp
- Take initiative to assist program participants and group leaders as needed
- Maintain program supplies and ensure proper use of all materials
- Help enforce all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct
- Other duties as assigned
Safety
- Supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe working environment
- Maintain adequate supplies in first-aid and safety kits
- Adhere to COVID-19 protocols
- Maintain medical and emergency contact information for each participant
- Prepare attendance reports and other required reports
- Know and adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; College Degree preferred
- 3+ years’ experience working in a specialized field
- Experience working with and devising curricula around specialization
- Previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in specialized fields
- Responsible, organized, and demonstrates positive communication skills
- Personable, energetic, and enthusiastic
- Successfully complete the following:
- NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening
- New York State Clearance Review (if offered the position, must submit $25 fee)
- Background Check
- 3 Reference Checks
- Physical with updated TB Test (fees may apply)
- Ability to communicate effectively with all students and staff while remaining professional at all times
- Ability to motivate students while setting an example in timeliness, attendance, and professionalism
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions
- Ability to relate to officials, staff, and the public in a courteous manner
