Activity Specialist
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance, and poetry.
- Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals, and poetry jams.
- Aid in the recruitment and retention of participants.
- Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
- Create program performance costumes.
- Accompany participants on art, theater, and dance-related trips.
- Keep daily attendance for all courses.
- Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presence of all the space used by the program participants.
- Inform the Program Director of any changes and abnormalities.
- Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on time.
- Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
- Assist other staff members when needed.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. The days and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday, 5 pm to 9 pm, & some Saturdays.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
The demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings. Move for long periods, providing instruction. Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traversing city streets, ascending/descending stairs, and being exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.
Education and/or Experience Required
A High School Diploma or GED; working towards or possessing an AA or BA degree a plus. One years' experience in the field and a high level of knowledge in Creative Arts.
Experience Teaching or Training Individuals in Group Settings
Experience with lesson plan development.
Skills, Licenses, and/or Competencies Required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
