Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive therapeutic recreation and activities program in accordance with 42 CFR483.24 and New York State regulations.
- Develop individualized activity programs based on each resident's interests, abilities, needs, and care plan.
- Create meaningful daily programming for residents with varying cognitive and physical abilities, including specialized dementia programming.
- Supervise, schedule, mentor, and evaluate activity staff and volunteers.
- Cookordinate special events, entertainment, holiday celebrations, religious services, community outings, and intergenerational programs.
- Complete required resident assessments, documentation, progress notes, and activity care plan updates.
- Maintain monthly activity calendars and communicate programming to residents and families.
- Collaborate with Nursing, Social Services, Rehabilitation, Dietary, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance resident quality of life.
- Manage departmental supplies, equipment, and budget.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention practices, resident rights, life safety standards, and all federal and state regulations.
- Foster resident dignity, independence, engagement, and psychosocial well-being through innovative recreational programming.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Administration, Gerontology, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
- Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification preferred, or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Must meet the federal requirements for a qualified Activities Director under 42 CFR483.24.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of activities or therapeutic recreation experience in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, assisted living, or long-term care setting.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
