Accounts Payable Specialist

About the Role

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support day-to-day payables operations for a non-profit organization in Raleigh, North Carolina. This long-term contract position is ideal for someone who brings strong attention to detail, accuracy in invoice handling, and confidence working with payment processing activities. The person in this role will help maintain efficient financial workflows by ensuring invoices are reviewed, coded, and paid in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Review incoming invoices for accuracy, completeness, and proper approval before processing.
• Assign correct general ledger or account codes to invoices to support accurate financial reporting.
• Enter and process accounts payable transactions with a high level of precision and timeliness.
• Prepare and execute ACH payments and assist with scheduled check disbursement cycles.
• Reconcile payment records and investigate discrepancies with vendors or internal teams as needed.
• Maintain organized documentation for invoices, payment confirmations, and related financial records.
• Communicate with stakeholders to resolve invoice issues, payment questions, and outstanding items.

Requirements

• Experience supporting accounts payable functions in a detail-oriented business environment.
• Working knowledge of invoice coding and account classification practices.
• Familiarity with ACH transactions and routine check run processing.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage a high volume of financial entries accurately.
• Ability to organize records, meet deadlines, and follow established payment procedures.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordination with vendors and internal contacts.
