ACCOUNTS MAINTENANCE CLERK/ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN.
About the Role
This position involves researching and explaining detailed financial information, reconciling accounts, and verifying the accuracy of various accounting functions and transactions. Duties are developmental when filled below the full performance level.
Responsibilities
- Research current accounts, historical data, and source documents to develop and explain detailed information not otherwise readily available.
- Research accounting data and perform balancing and reconciling of accounts.
- Verify the accuracy, completeness, and validity of a wide variety of accounting functions/transactions, including obligations, accrued expenditures, disbursements, appropriation refunds, reimbursable orders, earnings, and collections.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining Internal Control Program requirements to protect against waste, fraud, and abuse.
Requirements
- Suitable for Federal Employment.
- Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959).
- Must obtain and maintain a Financial Management Certification.
- This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- New employees will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Onboarding is dependent upon favorable security/suitability determination and availability of work and vacancies.
Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service is required.
GS-04 Entry Grade Level
- One year of general experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
- General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
GS-05 Entry Grade Level
- One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-04 within the federal service is required.
- Specialized experience is defined as performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures, which may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions.
This announcement will be used to fill positions with an entry grade of GS-04 or GS-05, with a target grade of GS-05.
Education
You must submit transcripts if substituting education for experience to be considered.
Substitution of Education for GS-04
- Two years of education above the high school level in any field may be substituted to meet the general experience requirement.
- Education must be obtained from an accredited college or university.
Substitution of Education for GS-05
- Four years of education above the high school level in any field may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.
- Education must be obtained from an accredited college or university.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement. Official transcripts are required if education is used to qualify.
For foreign education, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program. An accredited private organization must evaluate foreign education for equivalency.
Certification
This position requires obtaining and maintaining a Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program within two years of entry on duty. Failure to become certified may result in removal from the position or Federal service.
Pay
- GS-04: Minimum salary $37,193.00, Maximum salary $47,334.00.
- GS-05: Minimum salary $40,736.00, Maximum salary $52,957.00.

- Telework availability is limited and provided on a case-by-case basis.
- Moving expenses will not be paid.
- This position is not covered by a bargaining unit.
- This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- You may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.
- Travel requirement is seldom (1-24%).
