Accounting Technician/Case Aide – Public Health

About the role

The Accounting Technician provides high quality customer service through interactions with Steele County residents, internal departments, and various external entities. The role processes payments, ensures accuracy of disbursements and receipts, and prepares department payroll. When not performing accounting tasks, the technician assists public health with office and case aide-related duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining all departmental accounts receivable for patient and program health care services in conjunction with the Finance office:
    • Codes receipts to the appropriate general ledger accounts and prepares deposits.
    • Processes health insurance remits in the electronic health system.
  • Responsible for departmental accounts payable in conjunction with the Finance Office:
    • Codes vouchers for vendor bills to coincide with specific program cost percentages.
    • Verifies calculations and codes vouchers for contracted services and staff mileage and reimbursements.
    • Reconciles credit card expenses and receipts.
  • Posts departmental payroll information in the system.
  • Assists with inventory counts and entering inventory into the tracking system.
  • Assists with entering and scanning client information into the electronic record.
  • Assists with chart audits and waiver vendor billing issues.
  • Assesses client insurance eligibility.
  • Complies with the Code of Ethics for employees of the County, the Minnesota Data Privacy Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs general office, customer service, and/or clerical duties within the department, such as:
    • Addresses customer questions over the phone or in person concerning department functions and operations.
    • Maintains office records, files, and records retention schedules.
    • Provides backup support and assistance at the front desk.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

Requirements

  • 2-year technical or associate degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • 2 years of accounting or billing experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
