Responsibilities
- Oversees the timely and accurate processing, recording, and reconciliation of all cash receipts and revenue transactions.
- Records and monitors receivables to ensure timely collections.
- Safeguards and accounts for all Museum receipts and revenues.
- Maintains internal controls over cash handling and revenue recognition.
- Supervises and supports one accounting staff member, including assigning and reviewing work to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepares and/or reviews all journal entries involving cash and stock receipts.
- Informs appropriate departments and staff about incoming receipts and revenue.
- Maintains and processes daily credit card receipts from all the Museum’s merchant accounts and processes cc charges brought to Finance/Accounting.
- Solves discrepancies quickly to ensure the timely posting of receipts in the Cash Receipts Module.
- Addresses employee concerns, resolves issues, and supports a productive and compliant work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university, or a combination of education, training, and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, may be considered.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in a nonprofit or educational environment preferred, but not required.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical and procedural documents.
- Effective written communication skills for preparing routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and employees at all organizational levels.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
