About the role

Career Team is a leading workforce development organization focused on transforming lives through technology and compassionate services. The Accounting Supervisor oversees financial activities and leads the accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff; manage workload distribution to ensure all departmental deadlines are met.
  • Perform first-level review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by staff to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
  • Identify, develop, and implement streamlined accounting procedures and internal controls to enhance department efficiency.
  • Ensure the team follows procedures and policies to facilitate effective financial reporting and compliance with Federal WIOA, local, State, and corporate policies.
  • Direct fiscal operations relating to financial planning, funds management, accounting, and reporting.
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of project budgets, forecasts, and working capital requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for senior leadership, Executive Directors, and our contracts/customers, providing high-level financial insight and performance reporting.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); ability to reconcile complex balance sheets and profit/loss reports.
  • WIOA/Grant Knowledge: Proven experience with budgeting and forecasts across multiple funding streams (specifically WIOA or government contracting) is highly preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced MS Excel and Accounting Software skills (QuickBooks, Adaptive Workday, and Expensify experience a plus).
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage a team, foster a collaborative environment, and work effectively in a virtual/remote setting.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial management and staff.
  • Organizational Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet strict month-end deadlines.
  • Integrity: Must possess high ethical standards and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Travel: Minimal travel required to meet Project Teams and Board Staff.

Qualifications

$85,000k - $90,000k based on experience
