About the role

Sinnissippi Centers is seeking an Accounting/Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's financial objectives through accurate record-keeping, financial statement preparation, and compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by recording transactions, verifying and reconciling entries, and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
  • Accurately process payroll via the payroll system. Ensure timely and accurate distribution of paychecks or direct deposits.
  • Process accounts payable transactions, including vendor payments.
  • Aid in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring that all accounts are in balance and accurately reflect the financial status of the company.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of cash balances and identify discrepancies.
  • Monitor and categorize expenses, ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts by providing historical financial data and analysis.
  • Assist in analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to management for decision-making.
  • Aid in preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax reports, including W-2s and 1099s, to relevant government agencies.
  • Afford assistance with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and accounting standards to ensure the company's compliance.
  • Stay current with labor laws, tax codes, and regulations to ensure compliance in payroll processing.
  • Generate and analyze payroll reports for management and accounting purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred, but candidates with 2+ years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prior experience with HUD funding is beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software, payroll software, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of financial and accounting regulations and standards.
  • Problem-solving skills and resourceful thinking.
  • Strong time management skills and able to manage a variety of tasks at one time.

Qualifications

  • Experience with HUD funding is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, payroll software, and Microsoft Excel.
