About the role
Sinnissippi Centers is seeking an Accounting/Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's financial objectives through accurate record-keeping, financial statement preparation, and compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by recording transactions, verifying and reconciling entries, and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
- Accurately process payroll via the payroll system. Ensure timely and accurate distribution of paychecks or direct deposits.
- Process accounts payable transactions, including vendor payments.
- Aid in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring that all accounts are in balance and accurately reflect the financial status of the company.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of cash balances and identify discrepancies.
- Monitor and categorize expenses, ensuring adherence to company policies.
- Collaborate in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts by providing historical financial data and analysis.
- Assist in analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to management for decision-making.
- Aid in preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax reports, including W-2s and 1099s, to relevant government agencies.
- Afford assistance with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and accounting standards to ensure the company's compliance.
- Stay current with labor laws, tax codes, and regulations to ensure compliance in payroll processing.
- Generate and analyze payroll reports for management and accounting purposes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred, but candidates with 2+ years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of payroll principles, tax regulations, and labor laws.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prior experience with HUD funding is beneficial.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software, payroll software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of financial and accounting regulations and standards.
- Problem-solving skills and resourceful thinking.
- Strong time management skills and able to manage a variety of tasks at one time.
