Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Finance & Administration, Davidson County. Hybrid (in-office and remote).

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and five or more years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting and five or more years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
  • Graduate coursework in accounting may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis, up to one year (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours = one year of experience).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation and three or more years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.

A transcript is required for proper evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and expertise on accounting policies, procedures, and systems for internal and external business partners.
  • Performs complex reconciliations of general ledger accounts against transaction queries, researched information, vendor data, and electronic databases.
  • Prepares complex financial activity reports, updates and maintains project and grant documentation, processes high-dollar wire transfers, and handles high-priority accounts payable/receivable transactions.
  • Sets rates for internal customers, bills external and internal customers, and monitors bills and laws to assess financial impact on programs, grants, and internal policies.
  • Monitors revenue collections, department budget status, federal/third-party grant funds, and reported expenditures of sub-recipient grant funds.
  • Completes risk assessments to evaluate internal financial controls; assists with budget projections, workload requirements, and staffing needs.
  • Analyzes complex general ledger transactions and account documentation; resolves issues identified by subordinates.
  • Recommends subordinate retention, reallocation, or termination; interviews candidates for vacant positions and makes hiring decisions.
  • Leads subordinates in preparing financial reports, reconciling ledger accounts, correcting account balance changes, and processing high-risk or complex transactions.
  • Evaluates subordinates’ performance, motivational needs, and workload; develops strategies for achieving departmental goals.
  • Sets work unit goals and priorities based on policy, legislation, and resources; conducts training on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manages long-term projects to ensure timely completion of milestones.
