About the role
The Accounting Assistant, under general supervision, provides support for the State Accounting Manager. This position is part of the third-largest institution in The Texas A&M University System, East Texas A&M University (ETAMU).
Responsibilities
- Applies, interprets, and communicates policies and procedures and serves as a resource for answering questions regarding policies.
- Maintains a variety of fiscal and administrative records.
- Posts information to agency records and modifies forms or records.
- Verifies, processes, and reviews forms, reports, and other documents.
- Performs reconciliations of various funds and accounts.
- Affords assistance with various reporting obligations performed by accounting.
- Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
- Completes other required tasks as assigned.
- Contributes to data entry and edits in USAS (Uniform Statewide Accounting System).
- Contributes to reconciliation and clearing of outstanding items in Revolving account.
- Contributes to timely and accurate submission of tuition remission, and sales tax remittance.
- Contributes to review of departmental deposits and related follow up on any issues.
- Affords assistance with duties imperative to the department’s function.
- Assists State Accounting Manager with duties imperative to the department’s function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Four (4) years of related experience. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
Preferred Education / Skills/ Experience
- Preferred Degree: Degree Preferred.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education. Knowledge of and experience with Famis, Cascade (or Word Press) and Banner.
Skills
- Ability to supervise and assist with training student workers.
